“M Squared” – New Work by Jaye Pope
Jaye Pope is delighted to introduce her new work, titled “M Squared.” Here’s what she shares about it:
“My new work was inspired by my mother-in-law, Margaret, who is a talented potter living in Florida. She sent me an email a while ago asking what I thought of her new work. I told her I like it well enough to steal. She basically said “go for it.” Of course an artist will bring their voice and style to new designs, whatever the inspiration.
My work is wheel thrown stoneware. After the first fire (called bisque) I pour glaze inside the bowl or cup for an even coat and then hand paint the black and red squares on the out side with an under glaze. Before the second coat has fully dried I use a sharp tool to scrape through the color, exposing the clay body in a fine line that connects the shapes.
I then finish the work with a clear glaze, return the pieces to the kiln and fire them to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. All work is microwave, oven and dishwasher safe.”
