ArtWeek Festival 2018 – “Working Artists Share Stories”

MONTAGUE, MA, April 1, 2018 – Sawmill River Arts Gallery will present “Working Artists Share Stories” as part of the upcoming ArtWeek festival happening April 27 – May 6. ArtWeek is an award-winning innovative festival featuring hundreds of unique and creative experiences that are hands-on, interactive or offer behind-the-scenes access to arts, culture, and the creative process. Now an annual statewide festival, ArtWeek was born in Boston in 2013 and recently expanded its footprint across the Commonwealth.

“We’re thrilled to participate in this statewide initiative, highlighting a diverse and wonderful selection of arts events. Our cooperative gallery, in its seventh year, is always looking for ways to collaborate with other arts agencies and get involved with events to promote local arts in Western Massachusetts and beyond,” said weaver Kathy Litchfield, one of 15 member artists at Sawmill River Arts Gallery, located adjacent to the Montague Bookmill.

Date: Saturday, April 28 & Sunday, April 29

Artist demonstrations and stories from 1-5 p.m. both days. On Saturday, April 28, weaver Kathy Litchfield will demonstrate from 1-3 p.m.; painter Louise Minks will demonstrate from 3-5 p.m. On Sunday, April 29, potter Lydia Grey will demonstrate from 1-3 p.m.; photographer Judy Cummings will demonstrate from 3-5 p.m. All artists will be happy to share their stories of how they got into their art form and show aspects of their work to visitors.

Presented by Highland Street Foundation and produced by the Boch Center, ArtWeek offers new ways to experience art, culture, and creativity. This year, Mass Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism have joined ArtWeek as Lead Champions in this unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on the state’s creative economy.
