May Baskets & Art Cards for Mother’s Day Workshop – May 5 from 12-4 p.m.

Did you make May baskets as a child? Some of us remember folding construction paper into pretty little baskets, filling them with flowers or candies and gluing pipe cleaners to the tops. Then we’d run to friends’ houses in the neighborhood, hang baskets on their doorknobs and run to hide behind a tree to see the recipient’s delight at discovering their gift of affection!

May Day is just around the corner and if you are looking for a fun activity, consider the Sawmill River Arts Gallery your destination!

Susan Loring-Wells, master weaver and artist, will host a May Day basket and card making event in conjunction with Montague’s May Day celebration, on Sunday, May 5 from 12-4 pm. Each participant will take an hour or so to make a special card or simple May basket with materials supplied.

To reserve a spot at the Basket & Card workshop, please sign up by emailing SawmillRiverArts@gmail.com or leave a message with your name and phone number/email at 413-367-2885. Susan will get back to you to arrange a convenient time during the afternoon workshop period. Suggested donation is $5-$10.

Come out and make a card for your mother or a mother friend you know and love!

The event will take place at the Sawmill River Arts Gallery at 440 Greenfield Road in Montague, MA at the Montague Mill.

Seeking New Member Artists

Sawmill River Arts, a collaboratively run fine art and crafts gallery, is seeking new members! We are hosting an informational meeting for interested artists on Monday, April 8, from 6-7 pm at the gallery.

This meeting will give folks the opportunity to see the gallery, find out how we operate, and to see if we may be a fit for you and selling your work. We are all local artists, working in different mediums, who value mutual respect and artistic growth.

Sawmill River Arts Gallery is located at the Montague Mill, upstairs in the out building across from the Bookmill and Lady Killgrew Cafe, above Turn It Up CD.

Please call ahead to let us know you will be attending the informational meeting.

Celebrating our first year!

Over a hundred guests joined us in the Gallery for our September 22 First Anniversary Party. We shared wine, cheese, cider, and home-baked desserts, and were entertained outdoors by Walt Burnham on piano. Kathy Litchfield, our newest fiber artist, demonstrated weaving on her loom. The party was a huge success! We showed off our beautiful space, and our guests bought jewelry, gifts, and artwork.
Did you miss the party? Come see us at our next event, on November 3, 2012 when we will be celebrating new members at a party from 12-6 pm at the gallery. Painters Judith Seelig and Kate Spencer, jeweler John Moore and fiber artist Kathy Litchfield will be featured.
