Jasper Alexander

Previously a hairstylist by trade, Jasper Alexander began relief printmaking during a fit of dissatisfaction with his pre-pandemic life. He took to chipping away at blocks of linoleum in late 2021 and found himself excavating a softer self amongst the linseed oil and wood flour. He migrated from Central Texas to Western Massachusetts in spring of 2024 in pursuit of seasonal distinction, creative community, safety, and slower-paced living. In spring of 2025, Jasper joined Sawmill River Arts Collective.

His prints capture an eerie sentimentality inspired by internal dialogues, external dialogues, personifications of ecological phenomena, folk tales, stories told over dim light, and the mundane magic interwoven into all of our hum-drum lives.

An avid proponent of slow-crafting, Jasper also blends simple stitch-work with printmaking to create pieces from upcycled textiles alongside his more traditional prints on paper. He especially appreciates working with vintage fabrics that contain the ghosts of affection from their previous owners. Intent on saving these items from junk shops, attics, and landfills, he devotes himself to reworking them in ways that will get them back into the heart of our homes.
